Back to surgery

Karl was just wheeled down to surgery. After feeling pretty punk all day and running a fever, one of his surgeons came in to check the incision on his back and didn't like what he saw. So they are going to open his incision, check out any hardware to make sure it's not the cause of the infection, flush it out and stitch him back up. And we were making such good progress.

Needless to say, Karl was not exactly thrilled (nor were any of us) about the prospects, but we'd rather have them catch any infection early on. They will do general anesthetic (no ventilator) and bring him back to the same room, barring any serious developments. Right now, I'm going to pray there's no serious developments and that all goes well. If you're checking the blog right now (it's 10 p.m. in Michigan), I hope you'll do the same. I'll add to this post whenever I get any information.

Part two:

Karl is back in ICU on the 7th floor so they can monitor him more closely. They expect to move him back to the 8th floor later today. I understand it is common to have infections such as this (they warned us prior to surgery), especially for such complicated cases. They may go in every other day for a few days to make sure the bacteria is completely flushed. It's 4:35 in Michigan now. Goodnight.

You won't believe this, but for the last half hour I've had this nagging feeling to check our emails. I finally finished up reading with Rayah and literally raced to the computer. I'm so sorry this is happening, but there are some mighty fine doctors taking care of Karl and they'll figure out what is causing this temp.

I will fall asleep praying for Karl and this team taking care of him.

I sure wish I could do something more for you and Susie....sending my prayers, friendship and love just doesn't feel like enough. I know you understand what I'm saying.

Stay stong sweetie - Karl is going to be just fine. :)

Kerry,

I am Matt Carson's wife Nikki. I was blown away that Karl would even be thinking about Kristofer's hospital stay while he was preparing for this climb. Your post on his carepage was so thoughtful and we were very touched. I have been keeping up with Karl's blogs daily ever since Chad gave me the website.

Please know that my family is praying for Karl's healing and recovery as he was for Kristofer. I am amazed at the strides he is making as relayed in your blogs. May God's strength and love continue to bring him through this as smoothly as possible.

When he feels up to it please let him know that Kristofer is set to come home this weekend - by God's grace. We look forward to hearing such news about Karl.

Hi Kerry, Susie and the rest of your family, I have been checking back every so often to hear the latest news. I was thinking about how difficult it is to wait and not hear anything. I cannot even begin to fathom how you are feeling right now. I am sure that I am not alone. In that, I am certain that there are many others with me that will continue to pray for all of you throughout the night and as long as it takes. With much love and prayers, Gail

Kerry and Susie,
I'm on my way out the door to a Catholic retreat in Subenville Ohio. I won't be back till late Sunday. I will be in prayer for Karl's continued recovery. I love you deeply and I'm in it with you.
God is with us, all is well.

Sorry to hear that Karl had to have a bit of repair work done but as you said, this is not at all uncommon with this type of extensive surgery. Hopefully this is just another 'test'...however let's get on with the recovery, enough of this nonsence!!
Lots of prayers and Love,
Josie
